In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we introduce you to Denis, a member of our IT Operations Team and creative spirit.
What is your education and background?
I have a master’s degree in Micro Electronic Components, from MIET in Moscow. I have a range of experience in technical support, IT infrastructure build-up and development in various industries and platforms.
What is your role at Angus Systems and what are your main responsibilities?
I am a Technical Lead and subject matter expert on a variety of IT operations, servers, applications, virtualization platforms, interoperability, security and application layers, amongst others. I am also a resource for my colleagues in challenging technical matters, because I have extensive experience with Windows/Hyper-V, Linux, VMware, firewalls, and pretty much anything else that makes Angus Anywhere work.
How have your responsibilities expanded since you started working with the company?
I don’t think my responsibilities have expanded or changed a lot, but we are all growing and learning as we make strides into the Azure Cloud, so we are teaching ourselves and others to use it.
What do you like most about working at Angus Systems?
I really appreciate the culture and how the company is able to adapt to a changing environment. Management is always bringing forth new ideas, resources and technologies forward, especially in recent years, and I feel comfortable doing the same, which is very important to me.
There is also a lot of expertise here that I acknowledge, and I find it an inspiring working in such a collaborative environment.
“I really appreciate the culture and how the company is able to adapt to a changing environment.”
What are some of the things you’ve learned while working here?
I have learned about the wide reach that Angus Systems has in the commercial real estate community, and how our software is used to manage a diverse range of properties. As far as my own expertise in tech, the company is always trying to navigate towards better solutions, and part of my role is to bring this forward, and I learn a lot while making this happen.
Is there some contribution that you’re proud of?
Yes. In the first half of 2020, we as a team upgraded our hardware storage platform in our data center, as well as in the office. I introduced the idea that we could reconfigure some of our current tech, combined with new technologies, and make it even more efficient and secure.
Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
Something many people don’t know is that I used to do competitive ballroom dancing, including Waltz, Paso Doble and the Samba. My wife and I took Salsa lessons for a little while when we moved here. I also have a \background in Arts and am considered the ‘art expert’ for my kids when they have any projects to do.
If you weren’t working at Angus Systems, what would you be doing?
With my experience, I would likely be doing something very similar in a medium or large company that has strong values and a good culture.
What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?
I enjoy playing tennis and biking with my 3 kids, as well as helping them with their art projects, when my schedule permits. I am also very interested in technology and like to collect gadgets and explore possible uses for them.
