Steve, Senior Account Executive

Each month, get to know the team at Angus Systems. This month, we introduce you to Steve, a longstanding member of the industry and Senior Account Executive.

What is your education and background? 

Interestingly, my background is in mechanical engineering. I started at Angus Consulting Management Limited (ACML), a sister company to Angus Systems, 30 years ago as a building operations supervisor. I worked with ACML for 10 years, overseeing a team that ensured preventive maintenance, equipment servicing, and repair was being completed in a round-the-clock environment for a large data centre.

Additionally, I had software experience that was valuable to the programming of the Angus AnyWhere platform. So, I was approached to join Angus Systems to sell and support Angus AnyWhere. Acting as an operations supervisor was an excellent segue in to what I do now.

What is your role at Angus and what are your main responsibilities? 

As a Senior Account Executive, I manage some of our most prominent Canadian accounts. I am responsible for managing customer relationships and maximizing our customers’ business results with the right combination of our software and services. My preventive maintenance and building operations backgrounds are beneficial to our customers because I can apply this knowledge and experience to relate to their requirements.

How has your role evolved since you began working here?

As our client base expanded so did my responsibilities. Angus Systems has been continuously growing since I started here 20 years ago. Due to the evolution of the product and the growing use of services, I assisted the Implementation and Support team in my earlier years at Angus Systems. I was once responsible for teaching the Support and Implementation teams about the industry and our software. I used to manage the Client Services group and the Client Services Management team for 2 years, at the same time I was doing sales. I have also mentored majority of the Account Management and Sales team that exists today about the industry.

What do you like most about working at Angus Systems?

The variety of the work is great. I love travelling to meet new and existing clients. Cultivating and maintaining long-lasting relationships with our customers is key.

Is there some contribution that you’re proud of?

I would have to say I’m proud of the strong client relationships built over the span of my career. I love that I can call my clients and strike up a conversation at any time, just to talk about what’s going on, and they’re always happy to talk to me. Maintaining customers as they change from company to company helps sustain Angus Systems and I am honoured to be an instrumental part of this maintained longevity.

If you weren’t working at Angus, what would you be doing?

I would be back in property management, as I enjoy having a hands-on role. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for cars as well. I think being a car salesmen could be a nice fit for me too.

What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?

Life is busy with kids and their sports. There are always renovations that need to be done around the house. I’m really into cars. I had a 1967 Firebird that I bought when I was 18 and I worked on for several years. I enjoy watching car shows and racing tournaments. I play golf, just not as much as I’d like to. I’m also a huge NFL and Canadian Football League (CFL) fan.
