In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we meet Arev, an Agile Coach with a love for volunteering!
What is your education and background?
I have a bachelor’s degree in economics, but I have always worked at software development companies generally in quality assurance. This makes working at Angus Systems a great fit for me.
What is your role at Angus Systems and what are your main responsibilities?
In my role as Angus Systems’ Agile Coach, my main responsibility is to work with multiple teams to help them adopt the Agile methodology. I’m also responsible for revealing and removing roadblocks that might impede the work flow. I do this by collaborating with team members that are experienced in dealing with the challenges that we’re facing to ensure timely completion of tasks.
How have your responsibilities expanded since you started working with the company?
I began working here over three years ago as a Quality Assurance Analyst. In this role, I was responsible for ensuring the quality of our products’ new and existing features. The quality assurance process here is very thorough and goes beyond the baseline testing implemented elsewhere. Compared to my previous work experience, I find that Angus Systems approaches quality assurance from all angles, which is why our products are so robust. I took the opportunity to learn and use different tools and techniques related to my responsibilities while I was a Quality Assurance Analyst, which helped me transition into my current role as an Agile Coach.
What do you like most about working at Angus Systems?
I love my job, not only because of the work I do, but mostly because of the company itself. The people, environment, and culture of Angus Systems make the workdays pleasant. This is so important to me because we spend a major part of our weekdays at work.
What are some of the things you’ve learned while working here?
I’m learning new technical skills every day, and I really like that. I’ve also learned that this must be a great place to work because many employees have been working with the company for several years, and this makes me feel like I am in the right place.
Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I was a competitive ballroom dancer for 13 years before I had my kids. Also, I used to own a small dance studio before moving to Canada.
If you weren’t working at Angus Systems, what would you be doing?
Realistically, I would likely be working at another software company, but I’m very happy that I’m here!
What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?
I have volunteered in different countries, which was so much fun! I also enjoy wood crafts, but I’ll have to postpone this hobby until my kids get older. In the meantime, I would love to continue volunteering.
