In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we introduce you to Ernesto, a senior member of the Development team and a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays!
What is your education and background?
I have a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Havana, Cuba.
What is your role at Angus Systems and what are your main responsibilities?
As a Senior Software Developer, my main responsibilities include upgrading modules, migration, maintenance, and coding for Angus AnyWhere and the responsive Service Portal.
How have your responsibilities expanded since you started working with the company?
I have been working with the company for almost 15 years. When I started here in the Development team, I used to do both front-end and back-end development duties. Now I focus on the front-end responsibilities. In the beginning I was working on modules such as Visitor Security, COI, Survey, Tenant Access Card, and Notify+Response. In more recent years, I have been responsible for maintaining and updating new technologies to keep the product relevant and useful.
What do you like most about working at Angus Systems?
I like the working environment and the people here.
What are some of the things you’ve learned while working here?
Over the years, I have had to learn many different softwares to keep up to date with advancing technology. Especially working with UI (user interface), where new frameworks (or software libraries) come out every year, there has been a lot of research put into upgrading the software for Angus AnyWhere.
Is there some contribution that you’re proud of?
I am very proud of all my work, but one project that I am particularly proud of and truly enjoyed working on is the Reservation module and the Service Portal because I worked on the first version of the Reservation module about 10 years ago and many improvements were necessary. We worked to update the module to make it reflect customer feedback to make it easier to book resources. So the fact that customers find it very effective and they’re happy with it, makes me proud of the result.
Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
That I have never missed a Blue Jays game.
If you weren’t working at Angus Systems, what would you be doing?
Potentially the Toronto Blue Jays’ general manager.
What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?
Watching Blue Jays games, playing poker, and watching good television shows.
