This month the Employee Spotlight features Jerry N., a stylish and energetic business analyst with a big personality!
What is your education and background?
I graduated from Ryerson University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Information Technology and Management. Before coming to Angus Systems I worked as a business analyst in healthcare, financial services and human resources consulting.
What do you do currently and what are your main responsibilities?
As a business analyst I focus on understanding how the business works both internally and externally. I determine the needs of our clients and work on developing solutions to their problems, for Angus Systems this comes in the form of new products and features.
Have your responsibilities expanded since you started working here at Angus?
For myself, I’ve been asked to take on more responsibilities and more projects, learning new products and taking ownership of those new products. In some cases my responsibilities expand very rapidly when they need someone to step up to the plate.
What do you like most about working at Angus Systems?
Working at Angus Systems you get the opportunity to put on different hats, you’re always asked to do different things that are probably outside of your comfort zone. Angus Systems is growing and so are my responsibilities, but I love it because it challenges me. I want to continue to keep learning and growing with the company.
What are some of the things you’ve learned while working here?
Progressing through my career I’ve had the opportunity to enhance my people skills. I’ve always been a people person, but when I first graduated I was shy. My role requires me to constantly be interacting with clients, engaging with co-workers and to communicate effectively.
Is there some contribution that you’re proud of?
I wouldn’t say there is just one contribution that I’m proud of. In general I think that any project that I’ve worked with I’ve made a positive contribution to everyone involved. It might not be immediate but somewhere down the road I’ve made an impact.
If you weren’t working at Angus System, what would you be doing?
I love trying new restaurants and different cuisines, but I’ve never really been a good cook. I think that if I were doing anything else I would be learning how to cook. Recently I’ve been dabbling with perfecting my Crème Brule recipe. I’m a dessert fanatic, I love sweets.
What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?
I’m a big collector of action figures and figurines, personally I have a collection of Marvel and Avengers, probably upwards of 30-40 pieces. I started collecting 4 years ago and that’s my collection now.
